How do I know that speech therapy is right for me or my child?

Speech therapy is often the right choice when communication feels harder than it should—and it’s starting to hold you or your child back at school, work, or in relationships. Here are the most common signs that families and adults bring to our practice:

  • Toddlers (2+): using fewer than 50 words, not yet combining words, or so hard to understand that even parents struggle

  • Preschoolers (3–5): frequent stuttering with tension or avoidance, speech that strangers understand less than 75–90% of the time, or difficulty answering simple “who/what/where” questions

  • School-age children (5+): persistent trouble with sounds like r, s, l, or th; difficulty following directions, retelling events in order, or noticing rhyming/sound patterns needed for reading

  • Teens & adults: stuttering that affects confidence or job performance, ongoing hoarseness, slurred or weak speech after stroke, brain injury, or neurological changes, or frequently being asked to repeat yourself

If any of these sound familiar and everyday strategies aren’t bringing clear progress, a speech-language evaluation with us is the next step. It’s quick, covered by most insurance plans, and gives you an exact answer: whether therapy is needed, how much, and what results you can expect. You don’t have to keep wondering—reach out today and let’s make communication easier.

What Age Should My Child Start Speech Therapy?

The best time to start is as soon as you notice concerns – often as early as 18–24 months for late talkers, or even younger if there are risk factors like limited babbling or poor eye contact. Early intervention takes advantage of the brain’s natural plasticity, leading to faster, longer-lasting progress and preventing small issues from becoming bigger frustrations. That said, it’s never too late: we successfully help preschoolers, primary and secondary students, and even teens who have struggled for years. A quick evaluation can give you clarity and peace of mind, no matter your child’s age.

Do You Work with People with Autism?

Yes – supporting autistic children, teens, and adults is one of our core specialties. We offer neurodiversity-affirming therapy that respects individual sensory needs, communication styles (including AAC and gestalt language processing), and personal interests. Our therapists have extensive training and daily experience across the spectrum, delivering evidence-based, collaborative programmes that build genuine connection, confidence, and real-life skills while always celebrating autistic strengths.

How many sessions will I need?

Every individual is different and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. We will conduct a thorough evaluation to understand where the individual is currently and from there, we develop a personalized plan, which includes a recommended frequency for sessions—but that plan is adaptable. We’ll continuously assess their progress and challenges, and adjust therapy strategies and goals accordingly.
